Milesight Partners with Actility to Revolutionize IoT Connectivity and Data Management

Press Release – November 27, 2024 – Xiamen, China

Milesight, a leading provider of innovative IoT-enabled multi-dimensional sensing products, is pleased to announce the strengthening of its strategic partnership with Actility, a global leader in Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) connectivity. This enhanced collaboration combines Milesight’s cutting-edge LoRaWAN® gateway technology with Actility’s powerful ThingPark platform, enabling the delivery of advanced IoT solutions to industries worldwide.

By integrating Milesight’s LoRaWAN® gateways with Actility’s ThingPark platform, the partnership provides seamless connectivity, optimized network performance, and robust data management for IoT applications. This combined solution is designed to drive scalability and operational efficiency, empowering businesses to deploy large-scale IoT networks with ease, reliability, and greater flexibility.

A New Era for IoT Connectivity

This seamless integration ensures that IoT devices can communicate efficiently across large-scale networks, delivering real-time insights and maximizing the potential of connected data. The combined solution simplifies deployment, reduces maintenance costs, and enables businesses to gain deeper insights into their operations.

Seamless Integration for Greater Efficiency

The gateway integrates Actility LRR (latest version 2.8.54), enabling seamless connectivity to Actility’s ThingPark® LoRaWAN® Network Server. Data collected from LoRa® field sensors is securely transmitted back to various major cloud IoT platforms connected to Actility ThingPark, such as Microsoft Azure, AWS IoT Core, PTC ThingWorx, and others.

Additionally, the gateway allows remote monitoring of device status and modification of related configurations via the ThingPark platform, marking complete management of both the gateway and sensors.

Furthermore, the gateway integrates Actility’s Infrastructure Commissioning Service (ICS), enabling a zero-touch/self-installation process that quickly configures the gateway, simplifying the setup process.

This integration ensures that your LoRaWAN® gateway is securely connected, configured, and managed with minimal manual intervention, leveraging Actility’s advanced network management capabilities.

Expanding Connectivity for Industrial and Building Management

Actility has also integrated the ThingPark All-in-One (TAO) with Milesight UG65/UG67 Gateways to enable faster, more efficient on-site IoT deployments. The solution includes BACnet and other connectors, ensuring seamless integration with building management systems (BMS) and industrial applications for real-time data exchange and control.

With its pre-integrated payload decoders and connectors, including BACnet, simplifies the deployment of IoT systems in complex, heterogeneous sensor environments. It supports on-premise setups, making it ideal for buildings and factories without internet connectivity, providing secure, localized data processing and management. This makes it a versatile, future-proof platform for building automation, energy management, and industrial IoT applications.

ThingPark customers can seamlessly upgrade their ThingPark All-in-One towards the highly-scalable, resilient ThingPark Enterprise full-edition to scale up the coverage/capacity (multiple Milesight Gateways, micro diversity) of their LPWAN deployment and improve their operational excellence. Device configuration and state are preserved through the upgrade.

Zero-Touch Configuration with Actility’s ICS Service

Actility offers a zero-touch configuration feature via its Infrastructure Commissioning Service (ICS). This simplifies the setup process and eliminates the need for manual configuration on the gateway.

Enable ICS Service: Once Actility integration is enabled on the gateway, users can choose whether to enable the ICS service. By default, ICS is disabled.

ICS Service Activation: If you opt to enable ICS, the gateway will automatically run the ICS setup script. This script will generate the necessary public/private key pair and token.jwt file for secure communication with Actility’s platform.

Configuration Synchronization

Once the token is validated and ICS is running, the gateway will synchronize its configuration with Actility’s platform. This includes settings such as:

  • Link Backup
  • NTP (Network Time Protocol) settings
  • Timezone
  • WiFi STA configuration
  • WAN and Cellular settings
  • Remote Operations via Actility’s LPC Interface
  • After ICS configuration is complete, you can use Actility’s LPC (Local Platform Configuration) interface to manage the gateway remotely.

Key remote operations include:

  • Restarting the system or LPR (LoRaWAN® Protocol Router).
  • Managing LoRaWAN® Radio settings and performing spectrum analysis.
  • Backing up and rolling back configurations.
  • Frequency Band Synchronization

Platform Type Compatibility

Actility’s platform allows for different SaaS options, including ThingPark Community and ThingPark Enterprise (with regional options such as EU, US, and AU).

Ensure that only one packet forwarding type (either Actility or another NS type) is enabled at a time. If Actility is enabled, other packet forwarding types should be disabled to prevent conflicts.

Key Benefits of Full Integration:

Simplified Network Management

The integration reduces the complexity of managing devices, gateways, and network servers by providing a unified system that allows real-time monitoring, data processing, and network security.

Scalability

Both LoRaWAN® gateways and the ThingPark platform are highly scalable, making it easier for businesses to grow their IoT infrastructure as their needs evolve.

Security

The integration ensures that data remains secure from end to end, enabling businesses to deploy private LoRaWAN® networks (LPR) that protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access.
