Press Release – October, 2024 – Paris, France
Actility, the world leader in industrial-grade LPWAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Networks) connectivity, is offering a seamless transition for Cisco LoRaWAN® customers following Cisco’s recent announcement to discontinue its LoRaWAN® products by 2026.
Cisco has issued an End-of-Life (EoL) bulletin for their LoRaWAN® gateways, the IXM stand-alone gateway as well as LoRaWAN PIM cards. The end of sales is effective immediately and the end of support is planned for 2026. This EoL notice also impacts license renewals and capacity expansions for the ThingPark platforms sold by Cisco through our SolutionPlus partnership.
To avoid service interruptions, Cisco LoRaWAN customers and distributors are encouraged to transition to direct Actility support for continued network operations and license renewals. This transition will be completely seamless: Actility is a long-standing Cisco SolutionPlus partner, and both the IXM stand-alone gateway and IR11xx LoRaWAN® Pluggable Interface Modules (PIM P-LPWA-800 and PIM P-LPWA-900) are already managed by the secure LoRaWAN agent for IoS XE provided and maintained by Actility, and fully integrated to the LPWAN network’s VPN and PKI. During this transition, we advise Cisco customers to not enable the open source “packet forwarder” or “LoRa Basic Station” agents as these are provided ‘as is’ and have not been independently security audited.
Actility’s ThingPark platforms power the majority of large public LoRaWAN® networks worldwide and thousands of private networks and continue to be fully supported, the only change for Cisco customers is that yearly licenses will now need to be purchased from Actility to ensure uninterrupted network operations.
Customers using Cisco IXM or IR11xx PIM LoRaWAN® cards can confidently transition to Actility for ongoing support of their LoRAWAN® network. Actility’s ThingPark platforms are hardware agnostic, and integrates seamlessly with all leading LoRaWAN® gateways in the market. This allows Cisco customers to expand their networks with the LoRaWAN® gateways of their choice, while retaining the familiar, field-proven ThingPark user interfaces and APIs—already well-known to network operations engineers. You can order your new Gateways directly from Actility. We offer access to the top marketplace brands. Through Actility, your Gateway will be pre-configured, and you will benefit from having a single point of support for both hardware and software issues.
