Actility, the global industry leader in Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networks, and Europe’s leading energy aggregator, has officially launched the annual Actility Operator Forum. The first two-day event took place in Paris on the 29th and 30th of November 2018.
Over 50 global network operators and 100 clients and partners converged on Paris to join Actility in celebrating the growth and maturity of the LoRaWAN ecosystem and to share success stories, feedback, and best practice. The event was launched on Thursday morning by Actility CEO and Founder Olivier Hersent who delivered a keynote speech.
Launching the Actility Operator Forum is a landmark moment for us. We have grown exponentially in the past eight years to now work with half of the global public LoRaWAN service providers, in over 30 countries, and we have a loyal customer base of over 100 global partner companies.
According to Semtech, global LoRa device connectivity is expected to reach 80 million devices by January 2019 from 50 million units last year, and the use of outdoor gateways has been increasing by 200% year on year with over 100000 outdoor gateways now in use. In addition, 30% of LoRa-based devices in use in 2018 are estimated to be based on LoRaWAN, indicating a market dominance of LoRaWAN which is set to increase by 50% within the next 18-24 months.
These figures clearly demonstrate that this technology has arrived and is here to stay. To run our own event for the operators and our clients to share such information, best practices and to continue to review and develop use cases is vital for the continued growth and success of the LoRa technology and Actility.

Fellow keynote presenters included industry experts from Schneider Electric, Itron, Semtech, HERE and Actility. The afternoon sessions were each chaired by a subject matter expert with presentations and input from three guest panelists from companies such as NNNCo, GEFCO, Nexans, ER-Telecom, Birdz.
Topics ranged from general discussions about the LoRaWAN ecosystem to more specific topics covering industrial, enterprise and private networks and then deeper into vertical use cases on those networks, including agriculture, logistics, smart cities, smart water. Given the maturity of LoRaWAN, the forum was also able to delve into go-to-market strategies, pricing models, deployment models, and roaming.
